"Ted
Flowers "First" Silver Parade Saddle.
That's right...this could be the first attempt of Ted Flowers in
his new career in making
When
I received this saddle I was puzzled. It had a Ted Flowers Horn
and the silver pieces had the TF style.
However, it was on a L.V.Frazer Saddle. Our research showed that
L.V. Frazer made high quality saddles in the 1930's until the
end of the 1940's around the time Ted Flowers was starting his
company. It looks like Ted hadn't made his dyes yet because each
piece is hand engraved with the well known Flowers design. I
removed the pommel end cap and inside was written "Spot Shop,
Anderson Ind". I email the Mayors office in Anderson and they
sent me the name and number of the County Historian.
Guess
what? He not only knew Ted Flowers but he was the prosecutor
working the TF murder trial. But that's another story, for
another time.
He
told me that Ted's shop was on RT. 9 half way between Anderson
and Alexandra Ind. and that mail would be delivered to both
addresses. Under the pommel end cap you can see tooled
leather. It looks like Ted either got together with L.V.Frazer
and then covered one of their saddles or was contracted by the
owner of the saddle to do that. The Saddle, Taps and bridle
are all matching. The Breast Collar and Serapies look like
Teds work but a few years further down the line.
For
a 60 years old saddle, its in great condition. The Sheep skin
has been replaced but the rest of the saddle is all original.
It's a great collectable
but
still in good enough condition to use! If you have any info
on this I'd like to hear from you or if you would like to
purchase it contact Mark Allen 702 296-8586. This saddle is
from my private collection.
