Ted Flowers did make some saddles in
sterling silver, but they are fairly rare. This saddle was made by Ted
Flowers but it has Bohlin and Keyston silver on it.
This beauty was built (finished) in 1958
and Scott is the third owner. He was told the saddle took a year to build.
I can see why. It is not one of the "standard patterns" but it is a
Ted Flowers, and it has a silver tag in the seat that reads "The Spot Shop,
Alexandria, Indiana". The set is basically an "Indiana" style built on a
different styled saddle. The fenders are wider, the skirts are longer as are
the taps. Also the horn sits higher and the cantle is taller. As you click
on the different photos you will see the engraving is fantastic. This was
not a run of the mill rig! Some big money was spent here. The finely
engraved Conchos truly give this set some "Bling". Some of the
conchos
on this rig were made by Keyston and Bohlin. There are twenty seven
22K gold horseheads on the set. The poppy conchos were made by Bohlin.
This set also has a "croup cover" that covers the base of the tail-- it is
not shown in the photos. This is a really rare saddle in beautiful condition,
and it is actually still used in parades!
Thanks to Scott for sharing these photos.
